Shell has a similar programme in Nigeria called Shell LiveWIRE, a social investment programme aimed at helping young Nigerians explore the option of starting their own business as a real and viable career option, through supports in access to training, guidance, and business mentorship to young entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 35.
The programme operates mainly in the Niger Delta region and aims to inspire, encourage and support young people aged 18-35 to start up their own businesses through the provision of finance and training for young entrepreneurs.
The programme “challenges university students of all disciplines to share ideas to meet the needs of a growing global population,” Shell said on its portal, shellideas360.com.
“At Shell, we are proud to be playing a role in solving the energy, water and food challenges of tomorrow, but we know we must also inspire the next generation of innovators, scientists, thought leaders and entrepreneurs,” a written statement on the portal reads in part.
The benefits of the programme, as highlighted on the portal, are that selected applicants get to “enhance” their CVs and “improve” their career prospects.
“You will also have the chance to share your ideas, collaborate with students from all over the world, and receive expert advice from Shell mentors. You could even win your own amazing adventure,” Shell says.
The competition is in three stages. At stage one, known as “formulate”, applicants are required to register online to “join the learning sessions” to “discuss and to shape your idea before submission.” Applicants can enter as an individual or as part of a team of up to three people, Shell says.
At stage two, known as “develop” those whose ideas have been selected will be provided with designated mentors and will have access to “expert development sessions” crafted to “support to further develop your idea, Leadership & business skills training to enhance your career.”
And finally at stage three, the “pitch” stage finalists will receive “a trip to Make The Future in London,” where they will be exposed to intensive coaching to help them refine their skills; and the opportunity to pitch their ideas to senior Shell executives, Innovators and Industry leaders.
Application deadline is January 20, 2018.
