Shekarau, factional APC chairman appear at public function in Kano

Published by

IN what looked like an endorsement, the former Kano state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, who also is Senator representing Kano central district appeared in the company of a factional chairman of All Progressive Congress  (APC), Alhaji Haruna Danzago at a public function in the ancient city of Kano.

They came together to a function, an empowerment programme facilitated by Shekarau.

The programme was an empowerment programme to support micro traders on hygiene in Kano central.

The Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON) and Shekarau facilitated the programme.

Going by this scenario may support the reports that Zago was endorsed by Shekarau and his G7 to emerge as a factional chairman of the party.

Abdullahi Abbas with the support of the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, emerged victorious in the congress conducted at the Sani Abacha Indoor Sports Hall.

The two-term former governor, who led a group of lawmakers now known as the G7 to challenge Ganduje’s leadership of the party in the state, acknowledged Zago in his speech at the programme as “newly elected chairman of APC in Kano” to the cheers of the crowd.

Shekarau said “You know now, once they want to speak, they say youth are wayward. They have gone astray; forgetting that for us to have wayward youth we first have wayward elders.

“We pray to Almighty Allah to give us youth that are not wayward, those with integrity and high moral value that will benefit the society.

“May God forgive and transform these elders and improve their moral value.”

He, however, did not respond to a question on what step he will take if his group is suspended over the purported parallel state congress held.

Shekarau simply said, “We have submitted the list of elected members of state congress held and we are waiting for response.”
