She is disrespectful and abusive

Published by

A carpenter has asked an Igando Customary Court in Lagos State, to end his marriage, citing lack of care and disrespect as his reasons.

The petitioner,  Aliu Oyemakin, had approached the court, claiming that his wife of ten years, Ibiyemi, was always abusing him and  had failed  to take care of him and the children.

Aliu alleged that his wife was in the habit of insulting him at the slightest provocation.

“She is a serial fighter and is always looking for means to pick up fight with anyone.

“We packed out of our  last house because the landlord said he could no longer  tolerate her troublesome  behaviour. She fights with every tenant and even goes to the extent of almost going naked in the process of fighting.

“Whenever I caution her, she would insult me publicly. She is also not a good mother; she does not care about the well being of our three children. She would rather buy food from vendors than cook. I buy foodstuff in the house, but she doesn’t feel it is necessary to cook.

“I cook for my children whenever I come home from work. In short she is very lazy, dirty and disrespectful. I am tired of the marriage and I want a divorce,” Aliu said.

Ibiyemi denied all the  allegations leveled against her.

“My husband has impregnated another woman and just looking for a  means to send me out of the house. He was not truthful when he said we were sent out of our last house because I fight a lot.

“My husband started befriending the landlord’s daughter and even went as far as impregnating her. The situation got so messy that we had to move out of there. The shame was just too much to bear,” she said.

She, however, claimed to still love her husband and begged the court not to dissolve their union.

“We have been married for over 10 years and I have never known another man. I know I can be sometimes troublesome, but I promise to change, she said.

The matter was consequently adjourned till May 26 for continuation of trial.
