A man, Olufemi Olukoya has approached Ile Tuntun Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, praying it to put an end to the relationship between him and his wife, Bilikisu Olukoya.

Olufemi who got married to his wife nine years ago stated before the court that his wife had no regard for him and was in the habit of fighting and cursing him on a daily basis.

The plaintiff, aside his plea for divorce, requested that the court grants him custody of their three children in order to give them adequate attention.

Bilikisu agreed to divorce but prayed the court not to grant her husband’s wish concerning the children.

Olufemi told the court that:”My lord, one of the reasons my marriage to my wife did not work is that her parents were not in support of it from the outset. Her mother in particular was always encouraging her to misbehave and flout my orders.

“She lacks the quality of a virtuous woman and unfortunately our children unconsciously have started taking after her.

“She fought me every day over trivial issues and rained curses on me. She almost took over my position as the head of the home due to her domineering nature. I always dread returning home after the day’s work because there was no peace in the home as a result of her troublesome nature.

“I only had my peace after she moved out of my house.

“My lord, she left with our children which didn’t go down well with me. I pray the court to please grant me their custody after separating us.”

“He can’t have our children because he’s an irresponsible father. I was the one feeding, clothing and training them in school. I can’t remember ever receiving a dime from him as feeding allowance.

“My lord, I agree to divorce. To me it’s good riddance to bad rubbish.

“He turned me to his drum and was always beating me. He didn’t cease from beating me till he broke my head and I went into coma, “she stated.

“My lord, he’s envious of me because I’m financially empowered than him. He accused me of using his destiny to make fortune.

“He was the one who sent me packing. Since I left with our children, he never bothered to ask how they have been faring but he’s now praying for their custody. It’s the joke of the year, “she concluded.

Giving his judgment after listening to both parties, the court president, Chief Olasunkanmi Agbaje stated that more evidence would be needed. He thus adjourned the case and asked both parties to come to court with their children and parents.
