Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has provided succour to students in Maiduguri, Borno state, affected by recent devastating floods.
The distribution of relief items took place on Saturday, with Comrade Sunday Asefon, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Student Engagement, representing Mr Tinubu.
Mr Asefon explained that the intervention followed a needs assessment conducted with student leaders to determine the extent of damage to the student community, particularly at the University of Maiduguri and other institutions in the state capital.
He stated that student beneficiaries from affected schools in Maiduguri were identified in partnership with the respective school management.
The relief materials will be formally handed over to representatives from these institutions for onward distribution to the affected students.
The exercise was carried out in conjunction with the Noella Foundation, founded in 2018 by Layal Tinubu and her husband, Seyi Tinubu. Mr. Asefon reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to supporting students across the nation, especially those in Maiduguri.
He clarified that the items were donated by the President’s son and his associates, emphasising their dedication to supporting students at all levels, irrespective of tribe or religion.
He described President Tinubu as a student-friendly leader who consistently champions student inclusion and support within the government, citing the recent provision of buses to ease student transportation challenges as a testament to this.
He expressed profound gratitude to the President’s son, his associates, and the Noella Foundation for their generous donation, which he said has brought much-needed relief to Nigerian students in Maiduguri.
He also acknowledged the presence of student leaders, including the president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
A student representative in Borno described the donated items as a welcome relief.
