Sex scandal: DSS arrests suspended UNICAL Professor on request of ICPC

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Professor Cyril Ndifon, over his alleged involvement in a sex scandal.

This information was conveyed in a statement released in Abuja on Thursday by the Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, Dr. Peter Afunnaya.

The statement explained that the arrest was made following a request from the Independent Corrupt Practises and Other Related Crimes Commission (ICPC), as Professor Ndifon had repeatedly refused to honour their invitation regarding the widely reported sex scandal case involving him and some law students.

It was disclosed that the arrest of the university don was carried out in Calabar, Cross River State, by DSS operatives on Wednesday, based on a court order.

The Service, in line with interagency cooperation, supported the Commission’s request for a successful operation.

This clarification is provided to ensure a proper understanding of the latest developments in this matter.

The statement reads, “The ICPC sought the collaboration of the Department of State Services (DSS) in the University of Calabar (UNICAL) Sex Scandal case involving Professor Cyril NDIFON, the former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Institution.”

“The Commission had previously communicated NDIFON’s refusal to honour its numerous invitations, leading to his eventual arrest in Calabar, Cross River State, by DSS operatives on October 4, 2023, based on a court order.

The Service, following the Commission’s request and in the spirit of interagency cooperation, supported it for a successful operation.

This clarification is intended to guide public understanding of the latest developments in this matter.”
