A fire outbreak has occurred engulfing several buildings around Idita Street, Apongbon, under the bridge in Lagos Island. The fire has caused significant structural damage to the bridge.
The cause of the fire is currently unascertained, though the affected area houses shops that sell baking supplies and other chemicals.
The presence of emergency responders including firefighters has been confirmed at the scene.
As a result of the fire outbreak, severe traffic disruption has also been reported along Eko Bridge inward Lagos Island.
Authorities have advised individuals and businesses to exercise caution while approaching the area and make use of alternate routes via Ijora Causeway- Carter Bridge-Island, or take Oyingbo- Adekunle-3rd Mainland Bridge-Obalende-Lagos Island.
