Seven injured in Ogun gas explosion

Seven persons were injured in a gas explosion that occurred on Sunday evening at a steel company in the Ogijo area of Sagamu Local Government Area in Ogun State. Following the incident, the Ogun State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Phoenix Steel Mills.

The State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya, conducted an on-the-spot assessment at the scene of the explosion and issued the directive for the immediate closure of the iron rod manufacturing company. The entire production line of the company was affected by the explosion.

Oresanya stated that, in accordance with the state’s engagement rules with industries, the government will conduct a thorough investigation into the remote and immediate causes of the explosion to prevent future occurrences. The investigation will outline the conditions under which the company can operate to ensure the safety of its workers and the properties of the affected communities.

The victims of the incident have been hospitalized in a nearby hospital in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
