As part of its commitment to ensuring a brighter future for the current students of their alma mater, the 1985 set of Onireke High School (OHS), Ibadan, on Wednesday, organised a one-day knowledge empowerment initiative to help create a purpose roadmap for the students.

The programme featured two presentations, the first by the guest speaker, Prof S.B Fasoyiro, who exposed the students to some values and good character development to enable them to live effectively and productively. The second presentation by Dr Oluwakemi Oduntan enlightened the student on their purpose roadmap and career choice.

Commenting on the rationale for embarking on the initiative, the chairperson of the pioneer set, Dr Oluwakemi Oduntan, stated that the knowledge empowerment initiative was organised with the objective of creating a roadmap in terms of motivating, directing and mentoring the students to enable them to be self-sufficient and successful in future.

“Looking at the position of children these days, some are losing value for education and they don’t even have goals. They don’t have a purpose roadmap, for instance, this is what I want to be and this is what will take me to get there.

“During our own time, we also don’t have the knowledge but we have benefitted from a lot of programmes and that has given us the opportunity of knowing the importance of having a purpose roadmap to achieving your career. We decided to come back to our alma mater to impact the students so as to help fast track their journey into whatever career they choose so that they can have a purpose so that they can have a better future.”

“This is not going to be a one time programme, we plan to empower the students continuously,” she said.

The school Principal, Mrs Salako, expressed delight and thanked the alumni for the knowledge imparted to help the students navigate their way to success.

The knowledge empowerment programme ended with the students appreciating the alumni for reaching out to them.
