Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, Director-General of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) has charged corps members to continue to be law-abiding and serve as role models to the younger ones.
The NYSC DG gave this charge, on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, during the closing ceremony of the 2021 Batch ‘C’ stream II corps members at the permanent orientation camp, Iseyin.
Ibrahim, in a statement delivered by the Oyo State Coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe, urged corps members to be good ambassadors of the scheme as well as their families and institutions of graduation.
The NYSC DG further emphasized the need for corps members to shun every act that can soil the image of the scheme. He reminded them of the oath of allegiance they have swore, charging them to follow the content of the oath to the letter by accepting their posting in good faith.
Ibrahim equally enjoined them to perform their duties with diligence and be guided by the provisions of the NYSC Act and by-laws as well as workplace rules and regulations.
He said, “I would like to remind you of your oath of allegiance in which you pledged to accept posting in good faith. I enjoin you to perform your duties with diligence and be guided by the provisions of the NYSC act and bye-laws as well as workplace rules and regulations.
“In keeping with the objectives of the scheme, you are expected to integrate into your host communities while also appreciating and respecting their cultures. I must, however, emphasize that engagement in their local politics is a no-go area for you.”
While commending the corps members on their active participation in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED)programme, the NYSC DG urged them to build on their chosen skills by availing themselves of the opportunity of post-camp training.
He advised them to embrace SAED with all seriousness as it will go a long way to empower them for self-employment.
The NYSC Boss also warned the corps members to stay away from acts that can expose them to danger while condemning the acts of staying out late in the night, attending night parties and embarking on risky adventures as such can put them in harm’s way.
He however assured them that the NYSC management is committed to their security and general welfare for them to have a fulfilling service year.
