Senator Plang commends Plateau youths over peaceful protest

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Labour, Employment, and Productivity, and Vice Chairman of the Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Senator Diket Plang representing Plateau Central, has commended the leadership of various youth groups and their members in Plateau State for maintaining peace throughout the first and second days of protests against hunger and bad governance, urging them to sustain this approach.

In a statement, the Senator praised the youths for their peaceful conduct, noting that their behavior during the protest contradicted earlier fears that it might be hijacked by hoodlums and disrupt the prevailing peace in the state.

He also commended the military, police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, and other paramilitary agencies for displaying a high sense of professionalism during the protest.

“I thank you for your patience; your disposition has averted the much-anticipated violent outcome as reported in other states. I also thank you for listening to and embracing the voices of reason from the State Government and other stakeholders. I urge you to maintain this disposition throughout the ten days the protest may last.”

“The peaceful protest was exemplary; the people of Plateau came out, communicated their requests to the government with a high level of maturity, sensitivity, and unity of purpose. Their communication was well harmonized.”

“The Plateau Stakeholders communicated with the youths and the public, who acknowledged this and did not allow miscreants to exploit the protest to worsen the prevailing peace and security in the state. This is heartwarming and encouraging.”

“I want to thank His Excellency Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the traditional council led by its chairman, the Joint Council of Chiefs and Emirs, the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, members of the National and State Assemblies, religious bodies, and tribal and indigenous development associations for their efforts toward a peaceful protest in Plateau State.”

The Senator representing Plateau Central added that the efforts of the National Assembly members from the state are equally commendable, noting that all, irrespective of political affiliations, are determined to work together to improve the lives of the people of Plateau State through inclusive appropriation and lobbying for the state’s inclusion in the Nigerian agenda.

“I assure our youths that the federal government has listened, and all of us have listened; Nigeria will emerge from this more united, more purposeful in development, progress, prosperity, and stability for our people.”
