Senator Oyewumi distributes N10m cash grants to 100 Osun fish farmers

The Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Akogun Lere Oyewumi, PhD, representing the Osun West Senatorial District, has given out a total sum of ₦10 million in cash grants to 100 fish farmers in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of the state, to enhance productivity in their area of specialisation.

In addition to boosting productivity, the funds were also intended to enhance the agricultural components of their trades.

Moreover, a sum of ₦4 million was distributed by the Senator’s wife, Yeye Omolara Oyewumi, to 200 petty traders in the community over the weekend to help boost their various businesses.

The grants were given at a programme organised as part of Senator Oyewumi’s efforts to improve the living conditions of his constituents by providing assistance and support to small and medium enterprises in the region.

Speaking at the event, Senator Oyewumi urged the beneficiaries to utilise the money wisely and work harder to contribute more to their immediate environments.

He noted that if their efforts have a positive impact on the community, it would lead to tremendous progress and rapid development in the town.

Additionally, Yeye Oyewumi and the Manager of Ikire Microfinance, Mr. Mustapha, provided guidance to the traders on how to maximise the grants for their businesses.

They advised the beneficiaries to be prudent in using the grants for business activities and to remain determined to make their ventures profitable, ensuring their upliftment.

Meanwhile, the Senator’s wife remarked, “The intention of this initiative is to boost these farmers’ productivity and profitability by utilising new methods.”

She added that the grants were also aimed at stimulating development on the farms to enhance food security in the area.

Earlier, the group of farmers underwent a two-day intensive training facilitated by the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology to enhance their knowledge and improve efficiency in farming.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to Senator Lere Oyewumi and his wife, describing them as “God-sent” for the empowerment of the masses.
