Senate still hasn’t informed Buhari of Magu’s rejection —Presidency

Published by

More than 72 hours after the Senate rejected the confirmation of Mr. Ibrahim Magu as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the decision has not been communicated to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina told Saturday Tribune Friday evening that as of the close of work on Friday, there had been no communication of the Senate decision to the president.

He directed Saturday Tribune to the leadership of the Senate on why it had not officially informed the president of the rejection of the nominee so that a presidential decision could be taken on whether to represent or replace him.

However, all efforts to reach the spokesperson to the Senate president, Mr Yusuph Olaniyan were not successful as his phones were switched off.

It will be recalled that the Senate on Wednesday rejected the nomination of Magu as EFCC chairman citing a negative report on him from the State Security Service (SSS).

A decision on whether to re-present or forward another person’s name to the Senate was expected on Thursday through Friday, but the presidency said it could not react until it was formally notified of the decision of the Senate.
