A coalition of lawyers led by one Barrister Johnmary Jideobi has approached a Federal High Court in Abuja with a suit challenging the legality of Ibrahim Magu as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The suit which has the Senate President, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), the EFCC and Ibrahim Magu as defendants was on Thursday assigned to Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja for hearing and determination.

According to the plaintiff, Johnmary Jideobi, so many things have been going wrong in the country and no one has taken the responsibility of correcting such anomalies.

He decried the rate of non adherence to the rule of law in Nigeria, particularly with the recent rift that engulfed the legislature and the executive over the continuous illegal functioning of Ibrahim Magu as EFCC chairman.

He expressed his determination to ensure that the illegality of Magu as chairman of the anti-graft agency did not continue.

Counsel to the Senate President and Maimuna Shiru from the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation expressed their readiness to challenge the plaintiff’s suit.

The trial Judge, Justice B. O. Quadri adjourned the hearing of matter till October, after the annual vacation of the court scheduled to take commence on July 10, 2017.
