Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) was on Friday chided by the Senate over what it termed inexcusable expenses of its revenue in spite of being partly funded by the Federal government.
Members of the Senate committee were irked over revelations that the DPR collected 88bn as fees for collecting revenue on behalf of the government and could not justify the expenditure especially as the federal government bore the department’s wage bill of N38bn.
The Senate query came when the DPR represented by Adewola Johnson who stood in for the Chief Executive officer Engr. Sarki Lawal who is in Saudi Arabia on national assignment.
Johnson appeared before the Senate joint Committee on Finance and National Planning, the public hearing on the 2021-2023 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) as part of the 5-day engagement between the Senate and the revenue agencies of government to source free funds and consolidate same for the 2021 budget.
