Senate building: Ekiti monarch hails Olanipekun’s donation

Published by

The Olukere of the Ikere Odo-Oja community in Ekiti state, Oba Ayodele Obasoyin, has lauded the gesture of a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, in donating a new senate building for the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science, and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI).

Oba Obasoyin, in a statement made available to the Nigerian Tribune on Monday, described the legal icon as a blessing to not only the Ikere community but humanity in general.

He explained that the building would in no small measure enhance the academic and administrative activities of the university, noting that the support would ensure the development of education in the state.

Olukere said, “The building is important in the university because it houses the central administrative offices, the Senate and governing council chambers and conference rooms for the Senate, and offices for the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Registrar, which will enable academic matters to be handled properly.

“I cannot but thank our dear son for putting up this edifice in addition to the institution’s eye-pointer infrastructures as part of his contributions to humanity and particularly, Ikere development.”

The traditional ruler also acknowledged the annual scholarship and empowerment schemes of Olanipekun “in furtherance of his desire to continue to help the less privileged in society and also see to the well-being of Ikere Indigenes both young and old.”

Meanwhile, the traditional ruler commended President Bola Tinubu for the appointments of two prominent sons of the community, General Olufemi Oluyede as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Mr. Ola Olukoyede as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Explaining that the Ikere community deserves federal presence towards economic development, she appealed to Olanipekun to rally other sons and daughters of the community “to attract robust federal government’s presence to the town to engender socio-economic growth that will live beyond him.”

He maintained that “this community had been longing for the federal government’s presence, and I believe the opportunity has come our way with our sons at the EFCC office and Army Headquarters. They should assist Ikere in their respective capacities and push for more lifting projects.”

“Olukere, who explained the essence of giving back to the community, showered his royal blessings on the Ikere-born philanthropist, wished him well in future endeavours, and also urged all Ikere Indigenes home and abroad who are wealthy and in good positions to emulate the gesture of Asiwaju Olanipekun so that together we can make Ikere Ekiti a greater place for us, our unborn children,” the statement reads.
