en. Ahmed Ogembe (PDP/Kogi Central), on Saturday donated relief materials to victims of the rainstorm that hit parts of Okehi and Ajaokuta Local Governments in Kogi last month.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that communities worst hit by the storm that destroyed houses, food items and other goods were Ihima and Eika in Okehi, as well as Eganyi in Ajaokuta.
Ogembe, who was represented by his Senior Legislative Assistant, Mr Aloysius Okino, said that the gesture was a palliative measure pending the intervention of relevant agencies.
Items distributed to the victims included 100 bags of rice, 100 bundles of roofing sheets, 100 bags of nails, 200 blankets, 100 mattresses and 300 wrappers.
Others included 200 mats, 50 cartons of soap and 30 cartons of tin tomatoes.
Malam Zakaria Sanni, a beneficiary from Eganyi community, who spoke to NAN, commended the senator’s efforts and particularly lauded his concern for the victims.
He challenged others to emulate the gesture and come to the aid of those in need.
Another beneficiary, Mr Suleiman Aliyu, from Eika community, commended the senator for living up to his words.
“Sen. Ogembe promised to help us; now he has fulfilled his promise and we are grateful to him,’’ he said.
