The Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, has empowered over 200 agricultural entrepreneurs in his constituency through capacity building and grants.
The capacity-building training, which took place in Kafanchan over the weekend, was conducted in partnership with the Federal College of Agriculture in Ishiagu, Ebonyi State.
Speaking at the event, the facilitator, Mr Godspower Eseh, stated that the training aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of local farmers, enabling them to improve their agricultural production.
Eseh emphasised the importance of farmers adapting to the rapidly changing trends in agricultural production to grow their businesses and remain relevant.
He encouraged participants to commit to continuous learning, highlighting that innovation and a thirst for knowledge were essential for entrepreneurs to succeed.
In his remarks, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, represented by Prof. Ibrahim Sodangi of Kaduna State University, explained that the empowerment initiatives were part of his efforts to ensure food sufficiency in his constituency.
He urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the grants and training provided to expand their businesses. He also assured ginger farmers affected by a fungal disease of government support, as he had presented a motion in the Senate to address their concerns.
Furthermore, the Senior Legislative Aide to the Senator, Mr Wilson Iliya, emphasised that training these entrepreneurs on how to succeed in their businesses would contribute to peace in the area.
He mentioned that the beneficiaries would be closely monitored to ensure they effectively utilised the resources provided.
Some of the participants, speaking to the media after the event, expressed their gratitude to the lawmaker for his efforts in enhancing the capacity of agricultural entrepreneurs in the region.
They pledged to apply the knowledge gained to improve their businesses and contribute to food sufficiency in the area.
They also encouraged other individuals and organisations to follow the senator’s example in fostering development in the region.
Each of the 200 beneficiaries received a Knapsack sprayer and a grant of N50,000 to invest in their businesses.
