Security operatives arrest Quranic teacher for dehumanizing toddler in Borno

Security operatives in Borno State have arrested the Qur’anic teacher seen in a viral video recently flogging a toddler, one of his Almajiri pupils.

In a social media post, the Malam is seen sitting on the ground with his hands handcuffed behind his back, his clothes stripped off—just as he had done to the toddler in the viral video.

He is currently being held at one of the security agency stations in Maiduguri, pending his arraignment in court to face prosecution for child abuse and the dehumanization of a toddler, in violation of child protection laws in Borno State.

Reports indicate that the State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has directed that the Malam be prosecuted immediately in accordance with all relevant state laws.

The Governor has also taken custody of the toddler, with a directive that the child be examined to determine his health status, after which appropriate care will be provided for the innocent boy.

Commenters on the viral post praised the security operatives for their swift action and urged them to ensure that the Malam is thoroughly prosecuted and held accountable for his cruelty toward the child.

They also commended Governor Zulum for his prompt response and urged him to order a comprehensive inspection of all Qur’anic centres across the state to uncover other possible abuses.
