Tragedy struck on Sunday when a private security guard, Nuradeen Shehu, committed suicide inside a school classroom in Kano, allegedly due to his ex-wife’s remarriage.
According to the Kano State Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Mohammad Usaini Gumel, while speaking with the press in Kano, Shehu, a 37-year-old attached to a private school in the Gwale local government area of Kano state, was found hanging in one of the classrooms where he worked.
CP Gumel added that the unfortunate incident was reported to journalists on Tuesday, stating that the command has launched a thorough investigation.
He further disclosed that “On January 28 at about 10:30 am, one Abdullahi Abdulsalam of Rijiyar Zaki brought a report that Nuradeen Shehu, a security guard at the college, was found motionless after he hanged himself with a rope in a classroom.
He stated that immediately upon receiving the report, “a team of policemen from Gwale Division, led by the DPO, was deployed to the scene.
The CP, however, stated that upon arrival at the scene, they forcefully unlocked the door, cut the rope, and rushed Shehu’s body to Murtala Mohammed General Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.
Mr. Gumel said that the corpse had already been released to the family of the deceased for burial.
He further disclosed that preliminary information indicated that the deceased might have hanged himself to death upon realising that his ex-wife had remarried.
