The Area Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo/Osun Command, Dr Ben Oramalugo, has stressed the importance of strategic partnerships in combating security threats and strengthening inter-agency collaboration in order to enhance security operations in Oyo State.

Oramalugo submitted when playing host to the Oyo State Director, Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. R.A. Adelakun, and Corps Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rosemary U. Alo, in his office at the operational Headquarters in Ibadan.

In a statement by the Area Command’s Public Relations Officer, Kayode Wey, the Comptroller reaffirmed the commitment to working closely with other security agencies, including the DSS, to safeguard the nation’s borders.

He spoke on the role played by the DSS in supporting Customs operations, especially in intercepting vehicles suspected of concealing contraband/prohibited items or engaging in smuggling activities.

The Comptroller described the security agency’s support in suppressing smuggling as invaluable, saying that the visit would further strengthen the already existing partnership and collaboration between both agencies of the Federal Government to achieve mutual objectives.

On the FRSC part, Dr Oramalugo commended the Sector Commander for the continuous efforts in ensuring road safety and traffic management in the state.

He said that the Customs and the FRSC share a common goal of safeguarding the nation and protecting the economy, which is reflected in the critical role in supporting Customs operations, especially in intercepting vehicles suspected of conveying contraband goods or engaging in smuggling activities.

The Comptroller stated further that the support of the FRSC is invaluable in the efforts by the Customs to suppress smuggling and ensure that goods transported on highways comply with the laws of the land.

In his remarks, the DSS Director pledged support for Customs operations, including joint surveillance efforts, training initiatives, and resource sharing, which are aimed at fostering a secure environment conducive to economic growth.

On her part, Corps Commander Alo reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Customs Service in executing its mandate.
