The House of Representatives will on resumption from the Christmas and New Year recess, on Tuesday, hold a valedictory session for late Hon Ossy Prestige.
Hon Prestige until his death was a member representing Aba South/Aba North Federal Constituency of Abia State and member of several Standing Committees.
Some of the bills sponsored by Hon Prestige are; National Agency for the control of Cancer (Establishment) Bill, 2020; Federal Medical Center, Biliri Gombe State (Establishment) Bill, 2020; Compulsory, Free Universal Basic Education (Establishment) Act (Amendment) Bill; National Maternal & Perinatal Deaths Surveillance (Establishment) Bill, 2020; the Federal University of Technology, Ipokia (Establishment) Bill, 2019; Federal College of Agriculture, Igboora (Establishment) Bill, 2019; Weights & Measures (Amendment) Bill, 2019; Federal Roads bill, 2019; Directors & Permanent Secretaries tenure bill, 2019; Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Trust Fund (Establishment) Bill, 2019; Nigerian National Heroes bill, 2019; National Roads Fund Bill, 2019; Explosives Act (Repeal & Enactment) bill, 2019; Execution of Federal Projects bill, 2019, and several others.
Meanwhile, in preparation for the resumption of legislative activities for the year 2021, the management of National Assembly has carried out the repairs of the scanners at major entrances leading to the complex, as part of efforts aimed at improving the security within the Institution.
Our correspondents who monitored the activities across the complex however observed that the newly installed COVID-19 screening machines were not functional although the day.
It was also gathered that the COVID-19 screening machines which were installed at various entry point worth several millions of naira have been shut down, few weeks after commissioning.
When contacted, National Assembly’s Director of Information, Rawlings Agada, was not reachable as at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, armed policemen and other security personnel drawn from the office of the Sergeant-at-Arms and NSCDC were also deployed to the entrances leading to the complex at the early hours of Monday.
