The backing of the Igbo Governors for the oversea trip came few days after the immediate family members of the ailing Elder-statesman allayed fears of his death rumour, saying that he is stable and would remain under close medical examination for mean time as instructed by doctors.
The governors who spoke through their Director of Media and Communication, Mike Udah, told Sunday Tribune in Enugu that they are happy with President Buhari for his concern on the health challenge of their political leader.

“The South East governors are happy that President Muhammadu Buhari expressed utmost concern for the health of the former Vice President of our country, Dr. Alex Ekwueme. For them, the President’s action shows that he is a sensitive and responsive leader. The South East Governors shared this feelings and want the former Vice President’s health restored as soon as possible”, they noted.
It would be recalled that Dr Ekwueme was on October 29, 2017, admitted into hospital for a chest infection after he had a quiet celebration of his 85th birthday on October 21, 2017 in the company of his family members and had remained in high spirits up till his recent health challenges.
