SDP not vehicle for disappointed Tinubu’s ex-loyalists – Adebayo

The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) during the 2023 general election, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has warned that the party will not be a get away vehicle for former loyalists of President Bola Ahmed who left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) because of their fallout with the president.

The former presidential candidate, who stated this while speaking with journalists at an event in Abuja marking the 50th birthday ceremony of his wife, Queen Lilian Adebayo, said the SDP is for the Nigerian people and will not be part of those who want to get back to President Tinubu.

Prince Adewole, who has signified his intention to run for the Presidency in 2027, added that while SDP was still studying the ongoing coalition talk among the parties to dislodge the APC from power in 2027, stated that the party will be part of it (the coalition) only if it is for the good of Nigeria and Nigerians.

He said, “If you plan something somewhere and you want to use the SDP as a getaway car, that’s not available.

“But if it is just a centre for disappointed Tinubu followers, they should go back to Tinubu and resolve their differences there.

“If the reason you are in politics is to see that the Nigerian people are not shortchanged again, you can come to SDP.

“But if you are just coming to retaliate for the insult they insulted you, or a promise they gave you they didn’t keep, you are not part of it.

“Come to SDP to implement our manifesto. Don’t come to SDP to borrow us for a fight we are not involved in.

“We are a party for the Nigerian people. So our plan is not based mainly on people who are quarrelling with somebody. Our plan is based on what Nigerian people want as is contained in our constitution.

“But as for the coalition, we are listening to them. What we don’t want to be is to be a getaway car for a conspiracy and robbery we did not plan.

“So we are talking, we are listening. If the coalition is for the good of Nigeria, the Nigerian people, SDP is available. My party knows that I’m running the election (in 2027). Nigerian people know and we’ll make them know.”

The former presidential candidate also called President Tinubu to tackle the killings in the country saying it is becoming one too many in recent times.
