SDP constitutes caretaker committee for party in Osun

Against the backdrop of the crisis rocking the Osun State Chapter of Social Democratic Party (SDP), it’s National Working Committee (NWC) has set up a caretaker committee to run affairs of the in the state.

It also approved the appointment of Dr Sola Oladeinde as the Osun State chairman for the caretaker committee.

According to the appointment letter dated on 4th of October 2019, the national leadership of the party said it appointed Oladeinde as caretaker chairman to resolve the protracted crisis the party in the state.

It would be recalled that intraparty disputes rocked Osun SDP when the party’s governorship candidate during September 2018 gubernatorial poll, Senator Iyiola Omisore and some members of the party formed a coalition with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to win the rerun election in some local government councils.

The APC led government in the state recently rewarded SDP with two commissioner slots as Omisore’s running mate, Mr Wale Lawal and one other, Taiwo Akeju was announced cabinet members of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

But, the national leadership of the party clarified that the appointment of Oladeinde was in consonance with Article 12.5 subsection (1)&(2) and 19.6 of the constitution of the SDP as amended in 2018.

The party, therefore, charged the new caretaker committee chairman to as a matter of urgency identify aggrieved members of the party and to reconcile them, with a view to reintegrating them into the party.

It also mandated Oladeinde-led caretaker to carry out a programme of organising and repositioning of the party in accordance with the guideline from the national headquarters of the party.

Oladinde would also streamline administrative and political processes within the party in relations to settling up Elders Council, intra-communication network, administrative offices, membership register, bank account, state, local and ward secretariat, signboards, banners, flags in accordance with new party policies.
