School feeding programme: FG begins enumeration, data capturing in Jigawa

The Ministry of Humanitarian and Disaster Management has commenced the enumeration and data capturing of over 600,000 school children benefiting from the Federal Government’s school feeding programme in Jigawa State.

Flagging off the project at Fagoji Primary School in Dutse Local Government Area of the state, the Minister of Humanitarian and Disaster Management, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruk said, “The exercise is to be conducted nationwide. The aim of the exercise is to have accurate records and full data of the school children under the programme nationwide.”

The minister, who was represented by an assistant director in the ministry, Badayi Mukhatar noted that “presently our record shows that there are 641,295 primary school pupils in the homegrown school feeding program in this state.” 

He explained that the program was organised to feed primary one to three pupils with a total number of 641,295 pupils emerging from 27 local government areas of Jigawa. 

Mr Badayi maintained that the enumeration exercise will capture all benefiting pupils in 2,211 primary schools in the state. 

The assistant director maintained that about 5,024 cook vendors were engaged in the programme. 

According to him, the Federal Government under the present administration introduced this program to increase school attendance by children, reduce unemployment and boost the economy across the country.
