Say no to impunity, rigging, Umahi charges youths

AHEAD of 2019 general election, the Ebonyi state Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi has urged Nigerian youths whom he described as catalyst to shun and resist eating up the future that belongs to them by saying no to impunity and rigging.

Governor Umahi gave the advice during the official closing/ orientation course passing out parade ceremony of 2018 Batch B stream 1 corps members deployed to Ebonyi state at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, at old Macgregor college Afikpo yesterday.

Governor Umahi who stated categorically that election would never be rig in Ebonyi state by any political party including the APC, and Armed forces come 2019, advised the corps members to pay necessary attention to the national assignments which remain their quota in contributing towards enthroning a credible leadership, good governance and above all engendering a peaceful and prosperous nation.

He added that hard work remains the only source in defeating poverty and backwardness and urged the corp members to ensure they discharge the INEC assignment with utmost sense of responsibility and good conscience by not allowing themselves to be manipulated by desperate and unscrupulous politicians who will be willing to buy their conscience at all cost during election.

“I have no doubt in me that you were adequately sensitized and motivated by the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC on your participation in the forthcoming 2019 general election.

“Do not in any way give in to their antics desperation and lure of cash or kind especially when you have to consider that posterity will judge you for the role you will play either positively or negatively during the general elections.”

Governor umahi who commended the state coordinator Mrs Ann Ngozika on her level of patriotism, discipline, dedication to duty, commitment and maturity in adapting herself to the demand of the regimented camp life , donated the sum of four Hundred million Naira (N400m) for the rehabilitation of the training camp, and also donated the sum of N5000 each to over two thousand corp members, N2M to corp members who participated in the match past and other cash presentation among the staffs and security personnel , requested for the deployment of all Civil and Electrical Engineers including Doctors and Medical Laboratory scientists to government house for official training and engagements.

He assured that all the project will be completed latest October.

“I will put a drainage round the NYSC camp, fill the field with green grass, do a concrete road with dual drainages from the main road to the orientation camp, put solar light from the main road down to the camp , round the field with solar light , put 25 number polls round the premises and also bring EEDC light to the camp, then release 150 million for the renovation of some of the buildings in the camp with pavilion so the total amount to be committed to this camp will be a total of 400 million Naira only so I assure you, people, that all the project will be completed before the end of October,”He said.

Meanwhile the NYSC state coordinator  Mrs Ann Ngozika commended Governor umahi for his synergy, harmonious working relationship exhibited with active support which yielded a lot successes within the three weeks training called on all stakeholders and corps employers especially principals of public secondary schools in the state to accept the services of the corp members posted to them and utilize them effectively to enhance the educational standard of the students of their communities.

She the enjoined stakeholders and corps employers to put all efforts in top gear to ensure that the corps members are provided with a conducive environment to diligently render their services to the fatherland.
