Save actors, actresses from Area Boys, Omoni Oboli begs Ambode

Miffed by the constant distubance of street urchins, otherwise known as ‘Area Boys’ at movie locations in Lagos state, movie maker and actress, Omoni Oboli has called on the state governor, Akinwumi Ambode to save filmmakers from the street urchins.

Oboli who took to her twitter handle to share some of the unpleasant experiences she had with some of the Area Boys who stormed the location of her new movie to demand for money said “I am totally fed up”.

The mother of three exclaimed that she’s “totally fed up” and also shared a video of her crew members in a heated argument with some ‘Area Boys’.

Oboli who alleged that a member of her crew was stabbed after a heated argument with some of the boys called on Ambode to save them from the menace of Area Boys.

The actress wrote: “I’ve been settling area boys everyday yet they still fight us. The other day, they broke a bottle to stab my crew and seized my van key.

“You have to settle different factions. I’m a tax paying citizen of Lagos State. As filmmakers, we pay taxes even on a loss. Na beg we dey beg o @akinwunmiambode help us. We are fed up! So many people are getting paid on this set.

“We are bringing commerce and boosting the economy. I’m on my knees. Pls help!! My money is not for area boys! They think it’s their birthright! It’s indeed very sad.

“I should be able to shoot in peace. Why can’t I work in peace in Lagos? I’m not shooting right now cos they won’t let me. I’ve sent someone to call military personnel before they kill us,” she said.

Meanwhile, following the remarkable performances of her past movies in cinemas, such as ‘Being Mrs Eliot’, ‘The First Lady’ and ‘Wives on Strike’, versatile Nollywood actress, producer and director, Omoni Oboli, will be taking her fourth movie, ‘Okafor’s Law’ to the cinema.

The movie, Okafor’s Law, which will be in cinemas from Friday, March 24, features a blend of Nollywood talents, such as Richard Mofe Damijo, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Ufuoma McDermott, Tina Mba, Ken Erics, Toyin Abraham, Kemi Lala Akindoju, Yvonne Jegede, Halima Abubakar, Mary Lazarus, Uche Nnaji, Betty Irabor, Gabriel Afolayan, Ken Erics and Omoni herself.

Set in Nigeria ‘Okafor’s Law’ is a comedy movie with social consciousness that tells the story of a slick serial seducer, Chuks (aka Terminator) who is an ardent player with the ladies. He enjoys the attention of women, including girlfriends from the past. He believes that once a man has had a woman, he forever has access to her. When challenged by his friends to see if he can prove the universality of that theory with three ex-girlfriends from his school days within 21 days, he accepts it. Turning on his best charm he sets off to try and prove himself, but his quest brings him to three women, Ifeoma, Tomi and Ejiro, whose situations in life have changed drastically since school days. This challenge of their various new statuses makes his quest to win the bet more and more insurmountable as he tries to prove the immutability of the age-old law, OKAFOR’S Law.

Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which recently screened Okafor’s Law, described Omoni Oboli’s movies as rooted in the eternal lessons of lust and saucy romantic comedy which further establishes her as a close match to American filmmaker Nancy Jane Meyers.

Nancy Jane Meyers is an American film director, producer and screenwriter. She is the writer, producer and director of several big-screen successes, including The Parent Trap, Something’s Gotta Give, The Holiday, It’s Complicated and The Intern.

With Wives on Strike going on to become one of the most successful movies in Nollywood, Omoni who is seeking to outdo her past record is already putting plans in place to make Okafor’s Law the highest selling movie of 2017.
