Sanwo-Olu to open Old Ojo road, three others

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will commission another set of projects on Tuesday, including Old Ojo Road (Phase 1) in Oriade Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and three others, all in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area (LGA).

The other three roads are Irede, Navy Town, and Mumuni Adio (Buba Marwa).

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, announced this in a press release made available to newsmen on Monday. He stated that the formal handover further demonstrates Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to realizing his administration’s THEMES+ Agenda, emphasizing road infrastructure as a critical driver of economic activity.

Omotoso explained that the Irede, Navy Town, Mumuni Adio (Buba Marwa), and Old Ojo (Phase 1) roads provide vital links to the Lagos Blue Line Rail on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway and the water transportation network, which includes multiple jetties along the corridor.

According to him, the newly reconstructed 10.1km roads connect the rail infrastructure on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway to the Inland Waterways terminal, with major linkages to residential and commercial areas.

“Irede Road is a 2.2km stretch off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, terminating at the Irede Jetty, which facilitates water transportation to riverine communities such as Ibasa, Ibeshe, Ilashe, and Imoore in Amuwo-Odofin LGA.

“Mumuni Adio Road serves as a major arterial route providing access to tank farms and industries in Ijegun Egba, a significant petroleum products depot. Originally constructed as a semi-urban road about 40 years ago, it has now been upgraded.

“Navy Town Road connects Old Ojo Road to Ijegun Imoren Jetty and provides access to Central Bank Estate, the Training School, and Navy Town,” he stated.

The commissioner recalled that Old Ojo Road, originally built in the early 1960s with an average width of 10 meters and inadequate drainage, was approved for rehabilitation and upgrade due to its strategic economic importance.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration remains committed to upgrading old roads and constructing new ones for the benefit of residents, fulfilling his promise to Lagosians,” he assured.
