Gov Sanwo-Olu
Lagos State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed worries over what it perceived as the delay on the part of the state governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, to inaugurate his cabinet for the due administration of the state, describing the development as unpardonable.
PDP expressed this concern in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday in Lagos by its spokesperson, Mr. Taofik Gani, even as it further described the development an aberration that had made the governor act as a sole administrator.
“This is unpardonable and results of the aberration adopted by the governor to govern the state without a cabinet, thus acting as a sole administrator,” the party said.
But Mr. Gboyega Akosile, who is Deputy Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his reaction, said the PDP lacked knowledge of the country’s constitution otherwise it would not have issued a statement demanding that the governor hurriedly announce his cabinet member.

According to Akosile, this is because there is nowhere in the constitution where a time frame is stipulated for state governors concerning the composition of the cabinet, declaring that PDP, no doubt needed some tutorials on not only party politics but governance itself.
According to PDP, the unwarranted delay has further vindicated its stance that Governor Sanwo-Olu was hurriedly brought on stage to be governor and was not prepared for the job.
“Governor Sanwoolu was hurriedly brought on stage to be governor and not a prepared governor for the job,” PDP said.
“Governance in the state has become guerilla-styled and disillusioned. There is no excuse for this in a state as Lagos that is blessed with numerous credible intellectuals,” PDP added, lamenting that Lagosians were now suffering the uncoordinated governance as observed in increased traffic jams, increased insecurity, abandoned and decaying infrastructure.
The party, therefore, urged the State House of Assembly to summon Governor Sanwo-Olu to appear before it to explain the reasons for the delay in constituting his cabinet.
Governor Sanwo-Olu’s spokesperson, Akosile, in a statement titled, “Cabinet Formation: Lagos PDP requires tutorial in Governance,” said the PDP made its demand on the cabinet because it was apparently bereft of something better to do, urging it to engage itself with more important issues that bothered on social and economic development of Lagosians.
“Like the proverbial suitor whose wife is on the way to the altar on the wedding day but keeps peeping through the windows to check whether the woman has arrived or not, the PDP, apparently bereft of something better to do, is feigning impatience. Baring any unforeseen circumstances, the bride will certainly be with him.
“However, we need to remind the PDP that the constitution is very clear about the issue of the cabinet. There is nowhere in the constitution where a time frame is stipulated for state chief executives on the composition of cabinet so the PDP needs some tutorials on not only party politics but government itself. If the party had done its due diligence by first consulting the constitution, it would not have issued a statement demanding that the governor hurriedly announces his cabinet members,” the statement said.
Akosile, while reminding the PDP of the campaign promises of Governor Sanwo-Olu, assured that the governor would appoint highly qualified and competent men and women as commissioners to drive the governor’s vision of delivering a greater Lagos to all the citizens of the state.
“The PDP needs to also be reminded that the governor had said it countless times during the electioneering that he would put in place a high-quality cabinet composed of tested men and women who will join him to drive his vision of delivering a greater Lagos to all the citizens of the state.
“It goes without saying that highly qualified and competent men and women will be appointed as commissioners by HE Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“The PDP should, therefore, busy itself with more important issues that bother on social and economic development of our people,” the statement said.
