Sanwo-Olu hosts Baptist leaders ahead of BWA in Lagos

THE Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has played host to a delegation from the Nigerian Baptist Convention led by the president of the church, Dr Israel Akanji.

The courtesy visit was part of the preparation for the 2024 Baptist World Alliance Annual Gathering held in Lagos.

The event billed to be held at the Eko Hotels Lagos between July 7 and 12, will have members of the denomination from across the world gathered at the centre of excellence.

Sanwo-olu revealed that the courtesy visit by the Baptist leaders provided a platform to discuss and share insights on ‘how to integrate and intersect our goals as an administration with their mission as an organisation.’

In his response, Akanji said the visit provided a vital platform for discussing key issues concerning the role of the church in societal development, potential partnerships, and initiatives.

He added that the visit was also to officially invite the governor to the forthcoming Annual Gathering of the Baptist World Alliance as Lagos and Nigeria play historic host for the first time.

The president appreciated the enviable innovations in the state in areas of rail and water transportation, food subsidy, prompt medical interventions, staff welfare, and safety, which made Lagos the choice of hosting the BWA AG.
