Salvage Nigeria’s Naira

I want to plead with the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria not to chase shadows or be too engrossed in politics but should rather, withdraw the existing dirty, torn, taped and stinking naira notes from circulation.

I know you must have travelled to the USA, UK and other developed countries and you would have noticed how neat and clean their currencies were and still are.

In Nigeria, however, we fight and abuse one another and are even stranded at times because taxi drivers, market women, petrol attendants, ‘okada’ (motorcycle) riders refuse to accept the tattered and torn notes. Meanwhile, it seems N50 and N100 notes, especially the latter, are running out of circulation.

Even banks reject the torn notes at times. Where do we turn to? To whom do we relate our plight? The common man does not have much money and the little that he collects from your banks, all over are disgusting.

The rich spend mint while the common man spends rough, old tattered notes. When will Nigerians enjoy good things and benefit from the dividends of democracy?

Nigerians will appreciate it if you can withdraw all bad notes from circulation. The common man will never forget you if you do this Mr CBN Governor of our time.

Also educate the masses on how to manage the notes and keep them tidy and clean.

Do Nigerians proud by taking a quick action.

Mrs Ademola, C. O.
