Sallah: CAS fetes troops, reaffirms commitment to personnel welfare

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) commitment to the welfare and operational effectiveness of its personnel.

This was contained in a statement made available to Defence Correspondents in Abuja on Tuesday by the Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information of the Service, Group Captain Kabiru Ali

According to the statement, the CAS gave the assurance on Monday while hosting the 2025 Sallah Luncheon with troops of the Air Component, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in Katsina State.

It explained that while speaking at the event, the CAS commended the troops for their resilience, dedication, and professionalism in safeguarding the nation and assured them that their sacrifices would not go unrecognised.

According to it, Air Marshal Abubakar, who was represented by the Air Officer, Commanding Special Operations Command, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Usman Kandi Abdullahi, applauded the troops for their unwavering commitment to national security

It added that while highlighting the troops in their achievements in recent operations, the CAS said, “Your relentless efforts in conducting air interdiction missions, disrupting enemy supply chains, and delivering precision strikes have significantly degraded adversary capabilities.”

He further emphasised that their sacrifices, often under harsh conditions, reaffirmed the NAF’s resolve to safeguard Nigeria and ensure lasting peace in the region.

The statement further added that while acknowledging the challenges inherent in every operational environment, the CAS urged the troops to remain steadfast in their mission to restore normalcy, adding, “we must not allow obstacles to deter us. Our mandate is clear, and we will press forward with determination until total victory is achieved.

“The CAS also paid tribute to fallen heroes, describing their ultimate sacrifice as a source of inspiration.”

He called for a moment of reflection in their honour and assured them that their contributions to national security would never be forgotten.

It added that the CAS, who commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support for the NAF, also acknowledged the contributions of the Minister of Defence, the Minister of State for Defence, and the Chief of Defence Staff in bolstering the NAF’s operational capacity.

He also commended the Governor of Katsina State, Malam Umaru Dikko Radda, for his collaboration with the NAF in enhancing security efforts.

Additionally, he recognised the invaluable support of the Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma, as well as the Nigerian Army, other security agencies, and host communities in ensuring mission success.

It added that in his welcome address, the Air Component Commander, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (AC OPFY), Air Commodore OI Jibia, stated that the Sallah Luncheon was a vital morale-boosting event for frontline troops who were committed to securing the nation.

He noted that the occasion provided an opportunity for the CAS and other dignitaries to celebrate Eid-al-Kabir with personnel, particularly Muslim faithful serving in the theatre.

It further added that Air Commodore Jibia expressed appreciation for the troops’ unwavering dedication, acknowledging their sacrifices and commitment, and declared, “Your valour, exceptional dedication, and selfless service embody the true spirit of the Nigerian Air Force.”
