Saidi Balogun braces up for 50th birthday celebration

Actor, Sahidi Balogun is ready to put his best foot forward to celebrate his golden age. The event which would have held in May  was said to have been postponed till July as a result of the sudden deaths of his colleagues- Moji Olaiya, Olumide Bakare and Pastor Ajidara.

The four-day event, which is expected to attract top personalities in the country, which include Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, his Osun State counterpart, Rauf Aregbesola, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Minister for Information, Culture and Tourism, Lai Mohammed among others, will also showcase some of the works of the actor as a producer in the last few years.

Speaking with newsmen in Lagos State ahead of the event, Balogun explained why the event had to be postponed the first time, saying, “It was only necessary for us to the shift the event in order to honour the sudden demise of our colleagues. We respect them and we could not have held a ground-breaking event when the industry was mourning.”

Speaking on how the event, which kicks off on July 4, will run, the actor said it would start with a visit to accident victims at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, to be followed by a public lecture at the Theatre Arts Department of the University of Ibadan (UI), to discuss parallel line between movie and stage performance.

According to him, “On day 2, which is July 5, there is going be an evening with Saidi Balogun and stars with Corporate bodies, which will hold at Executive Sport, Ikoyi and would be anchored by Gbenga Adeyinka and Kate Henshaw. On July 6, we will also visit the Remand Home and Nigerian Prisons to feel the pulse of the inmates and share few gift items with them.”

The grand finale of the event on July 7, according to the actor, will hold at the Grand Dior Event centre, Ikeja with popular actress Joke Silva and comedian, Omo Baba as the host of the day, just as K1 D Ultimate will provide music.
