Sabon Birni killings: NGF condoles Sokoto State government

Members of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) led by its chairman on Tuesday evening paid a condolence visit to the government and people of Sokoto State.

The chairman of the forum, Dr Kayode Fayemi, described the killings as barbaric and condemnable in all ramifications.

Fayemi who is the governor of Ekiti State said the governors’ forum commiserates with the people of the state on the recent killings of 23 travellers in Sabon Birni local area of the state by suspected armed bandits

He said the forum will continue to stand in solidarity with any of its members who suffered such an unfortunate incident.

Fayemi who was accompanied by his counterpart from Kebbi State, Abubakar Bagudu, former deputy governor of Osun State, Iyiola Omisore among others said the members could not have made the trip earlier due to the fact that the President had earlier sent a delegation to the state.

He re-emphasized that the forum recognized that there can only be one Commander in Chief of the armed forces and that Mr President has taken a giant step in addressing the situation.

While commiserating with the people of Sokoto State over the killings, Dr Fayemi prayed that the forum will not have cause to repeat such a condolence visit to the state again.

Responding, the governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, commend his counterpart from Ekiti, Dr Kayode Fayemi, for leadership qualities.

Tambuwal who is also the vice-chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum said none of the members of the forum regrets supporting the chairman.

He called on members of the forum as well as leaders in the country to come together and find a lasting solution to the menace of insecurity ravaging most parts of the country.

He said bandits attacking the people of the country does not have either political affiliation or any ideology.
