S/E governors congratulate Ugwuanyi over Supreme Court victory

Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

THE South East Governors’ Forum has congratulated Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State on his recent landslide victory at the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court, last week, upheld the nomination of Governor Ugwuanyi as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 governorship election in Enugu State.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of the Forum, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, in a pre-meeting briefing at the Government House, Enugu on Sunday, told newsmen that the victory was “a confirmation that was already given by God from the day he stepped in as the Governor of Enugu State,” adding: “We want to say that the Lord who started the journey with you will see you through in your two tenures.”

The Forum also congratulated Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra State for their victories at the Supreme Court and Tribunal respectively, saying: “We know that the Lord who began this work will definitely conclude it.

According to the Forum, “our prayer is that this distraction should stop. So we call on our brothers and sisters from the South East to be the wise men from the East and desist from all these unnecessary distractions.”

Gov. Umahi disclosed that the meeting will deliberate on a number of issues concerning the South East geopolitical zone such as the position of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo on the restructuring of Nigeria and industrialization of the zone for economic development, among others.

He commended the federal government for the recent pronouncement on the second Niger Bridge, believing that “this will be the last pronouncement on that bridge.”

Other governors at the meeting include Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State; Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra State, represented by his deputy, Dr. Ikem Okeke and Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, who was also represented by his deputy, Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu.
