Supreme Court: Wase congratulates Buhari, urges Atiku to join in nation-building

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his victory at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, describing it as a victory for Nigerians.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Umar Muhammad  Puma, the Deputy Speaker said the Supreme Court judgement showed that President Buhari was truly chosen by Nigerians to lead them during the presidential election.

The Supreme Court had dismissed the appeal of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, on the ground that it lacked merit.

Wase said the apex court had shown once again that the Nigerian judiciary was on the right path and could operate independently without any interference.

He also commended Abubakar for choosing the right path of justice rather than resorting to violence and urged him to accept his fate and work with the president for the common good of Nigerians.

According to him: “The Supreme Court judgement today has put to rest unfounded claims that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) worked with the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration and the nation’s security agencies to rig the presidential election against the opposition.

“It is indeed a victory for not only the president but for Nigerians home and abroad in the hope of our nation’s continued growth and development.

“I wish to also commend the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, for shunning violence and choosing to seek redress through the right means. If anything, it shows that the judiciary remains the last hope of the common man.

“I also urge the former Vice-President to eschew any form of partisanship and work with the current administration in its desire to deliver the dividends of democracy to every Nigerian through positive reforms in all the sectors of the economy.”
