Rupetta Academy to participate in world record chess challenge

Rupetta Academy is set to join the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in celebrating its 100th Anniversary by attempting to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest chess marathon for the number of games played.

Founder/CEO of the Academy, Katmaan Senlong, said that the objective of joining the challenge was to make history as well as celebrate the power of chess adding that the Academy is the only organisation in the FCT taking part in the GWR FIDE challenge.

“On Saturday, July 20, 2024, a monumental event will unite chess players from every corner of the globe. FIDE, in celebration of the International Chess Day and its 100th anniversary, will be organising an unprecedented challenge.

The challenge involves participants playing the game of chess for a maximum of 8 hours. Rupetta Academy is thrilled to announce that we are participating and proud to be the only organisation in Abuja taking part in this incredible challenge.

“Chess is the game of geniuses. It’s very true because it teaches kids strategic thinking. It also teaches them problem solving and decision-making skills as well as how to think, plan to be one step ahead all the time. Join us as we make history and celebrate the power of chess,” she said.

Senlong added that players who participate in a minimum of 40 games during the 8-hour period would be eligible for prizes. She assured that participants would smile home with exciting mouth-watering rewards saying the event promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime record-breaking event.

Sporting Tribune reports that every year on July 20, chess enthusiasts worldwide celebrate International Chess Day (ICD), an occasion that pays homage to the ancient game that has been around for centuries.
