Rotary Club holds investiture for 40th president

The Rotary Club of Akoka, on Saturday held the investiture for its 40th President, Rotarian (Dr) Doyin Ogunyemi.

The event which held at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, had in attendance eminent scholars from the academic world, Rotarians from various districts and well-wishers of the new president.

Speaking on her plan for the 2024/25 Rotary year, Ogunyemi, a senior lecturer at the University of Lagos, UNILAG, disclosed that her tenure will focus on the provision of educational and health needs in Lagos communities.

These needs, according to her, include provision of school uniforms and educational needs for indigent students, medical equipment for Iwaya Primary Health Centres and the refurbishment of destitute home in Okobaba, Oyingbo, Lagos Mainland of the state.

She however called for partnership and support of government, corporate bodies and individuals in the delivery of these projects.

She added, “We have done the need assessment of some selected communities and schools in Lagos communities as well as the costing. We now need to go back to implement. We need more partnership with the Rotary in the delivery of these projects by providing financing or materials for these projects.

One of our project is sanitary refurbishment for Okobaba destitute home. Our main focus is to refurbish the sanitary facility to reduce the spread of diseases and infections particularly with the recent outbreak of cholera and now Mpox.

Another one is basic education and literacy. We are providing school uniforms for students in selected schools and the distribution of sanitary pads to girls across the communities. We also want to do peace project. We are also providing medical equipment to Iwaya PHC. These would gulp N15m.”
