THE Rotary Club of Mushin Golden District 9110, has donated Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics textbooks to the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos to support the study of science and technology.

The President of the club, Mr David Chidozie, while presenting the books to the school, said the study of science and technology was necessary, as it would allow Nigeria to explore opportunities for development.

According to him, science and technology education has not been given enough attention from the primary school level.

“At the tertiary level, science should not be ignored; it must be made the centre stage in our education if the country wants to grow.

“Science education is the organised study of everything that can be examined, tested and verified.

“This is why we have come to donate these books to encourage students to develop interest in science and technology; young people love to try new things and also like to practice. This is what science is all about”.

The Deputy Rector, Administration, Mrs Titilayo Ukabam, while receiving members of the club, expressed joy for the kind gesture.

“We are happy to receive these very important textbooks from you and we thank you immensely for finding us worthy of contributing toward the advancement of science and technology in the country.

“We will make sure that the students and lecturers utilise the books to the best of their abilities.

“We believe this will go a long way in growing students interest in science and technology,’’ Ukabam said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the donation falls under one of the Rotary International Areas of focus; which is Basic Education and Literacy.

In the same vein, the club also visited Lagos Chesire Home for the Physically Challenged, Mushin, where food items and toiletries were donated to the children.

NAN also reports that the donation was an annual event and part of the activities marking the visit of the District Governor, Mr Kola Sodipo to the club.
