As part of its area of focus, Rotary Club of Iyaganku, Ibadan on Wednesday donated 10 bins to the Lead City University, Ibadan.

The president of the club, Mrs Adekemi Akinpelu said the gesture was to encourage members of the university community to develop hygienic culture.

She said the bins would allow students to practice waste management both in the school and in their environment.

Akinpelu said: “We are donating 10 units of the waste bin which will go across the university environment; they will be put at strategic locations around the university community.

“A need was identified and we (Rotary) want to be a part of the good work to promote the learning culture by simply advocating for the members of the university community to keep the environment clean.

“Rotary Club has seven areas of focus and one of them is water, sanitation and hygiene; that is, March and April are to support the environment, so in trying to meet this area of focus, we discovered we can also do this for Lead City University, this is a learning environment for students to also see that it is good to develop a hygienic culture to promote learning.

“We are going to reach out to students to make use of the bins. It’s one thing to have the bin, it’s another thing to use it, so I believe the information there is to keep the environment clean,” she said.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Kabiru Aderemi Adeyemo, lauded the Rotary Club of Iyaganku for what it has been doing on campus of late while thanking the club’s president for trying to make sure that the image of the club is enhanced.

Adeyemo, who is also a former Rotary president, said the club is known for peacebuilding, peacemaking and conflict resolution, saying the institution is happy in partnering Rotary Club of Iyaganku.

He thanked members of the club for the gesture and promised the institution would make use of the bins judiciously.
