It first surfaced online when Wizkid’s girlfriend, Tonia Omotayo, left him and unfollowed Tiwa Savage, her close friend, on Instagram, posting a cryptic message, “You can’t be friends with people who secretly want your life… stay woke”.
Then their later stage chemistry, hugs and comely words exchanged during and after performances began to validate and massively fuel the controversy among Nigerians online about a secret love affair.

Produced by Benjamin Spellz, Malo was released on the 3rd of November 2017 as the first collaborative effort between Wizkid and Tiwa Savage. Both singers also worked together in Bad and are currently finalising another major project.
But there are those who have argued that their work relationship did not spark the current affection the two popular musicians now enjoy, but reinforced a deeply-seated romance of many years. To buttress the claim, Tiwa Savage was quoted to have said that Wizkid, who calls her Mama Jam Jam, was one of the strongest shoulders she leant on during her marriage crisis days.
Some observers, however, have opined that both super talented acts are simply leveraging the greatest publicity strategy in the industry, which is controversy, to build their individual brands and may not be having any romantic affairs.
For instance, in six months Malo had reached over 21 million views and over 5000 comments on Youtube alone. Meanwhile Wizkid’s muster hit song, Manya has only about 4.5 million views on Youtube despite being released on the same month.
Yet, there are those who do not see any wrong doing in their affair – should it be true. They argue that Tiwa, like Wizkid, is an adult and should be allowed to have fun with another man in the absence of her estranged husband who allegedly left for the US to commence a new life.
When Malo was released, many initially assumed the song was a gift to Tee Billz, the husband of Tiwa, and a desperate attempt by the artiste to keep her marriage. Malo in Yoruba means don’t go. But these unfolding events have clearly dispelled the doubt.
What could be termed as the last stroll that broke the camel’s back was their performance at the Afro Republik Concert O2 Arena in London during the week. The use of sexual innuendos such as “come to daddy,” ”sexy Tiwa,” “I am coming to get you baby,” among others clearly revealed Wizkid’s state of mind concerning Tiwa.
The SMADE Entertainment event which was celebrated as a sold out concert featuring other Nigerian artistes such as Tekno, Maleek Berry, Mr Eazi, trended partly because of the massive turnout of 20,000 people and mostly because of the romance between Tiwa Savage (38) and Wizkid, who will be 28 in July.
