This was a submission of Hajiya Bushrah Alli while delivering a lecture entitled “The Muslim Woman as a Homemaker” at programme tagged “Women’s Day,” which was organised by Al-Mu’minaat (The Believing Women) Organisation, Oyo State chapter.
Hajiya Alli noted that women’s abandonment of their primary duties as homemakers had led to the gradual annihilation of the family unit which, according to her, is the foundation of the society.
She expressed the view that women’s pursuit of material things at the expense of their primary duties as wives and mothers had negatively impacted the stability of the home, leading to chaos in the society.

Explaining that an Islamic home starts with a marriage based on the fear of Allah and not on worldly considerations, she said a Muslim woman’s strength stems from obedience to Allah and adherence to the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad.
The lecturer said further that as a home manager, the Muslim Woman is expected to map out strategies that will ensure the all-round success of her home.
“Each woman is the designer of the kind of home she wants,” Hajiya Alli said, just as she gave Muslim women various tips on how to relate successfully with their husbands, in-laws, co-wives and children.
She emphasised the need to be close to Allah, stating that a Muslim woman should be consistent in her prayers for each member of her family.
Parents, especially mothers, she said, have a duty to shield their children from negative influences from peers, the internet and the society.
She gave numerous examples to buttress the fact that today’s parents are far from their children’s lives, leading to moral bankruptcy and engagement in perverse acts.
The lecturer urged parents to be their children’s best friends by always being available to answer their questions and keeping the lines of communication open.
The programme took place at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan, with about 370 delegates that cut across different Islamic organisations and alasalatu groups in attendance.
