Rocking green and red this festive season

DURING this festive season, beginning today, Christmas Day, through to Boxing Day and down to the early days of 2017, there will be many events – office parties, Christmas carols, family get-together, special religious services, red carpet events, naming ceremonies and even weddings – with the theme colours of green and red, sometimes with a touch of white. Makeover sought the expertise of makeup artistes and fashion stylists on rocking colours green and red this season.

The red English dress

The thing with dresses is that they can work for as many occasions as possible, as long as you know the right accessories to pair with them. They are a safe colour for both dark and fair skinned people, as few as you know a thing or two about shades of red, some of which include copper, magenta, aubergine, ruby, red velvet, cherry, among others. Depending on what you’re comfortable in, the English dress could be long or short. This is also determined by the event.

Shoes

Heels are the go-to shoes for many events this season, unless it’s a simple outdoor event in which flats are the shoes for the day. Even for a day at the beach, you can still comfortably rock wedges or low-heeled strappy sandals with your shorts or miniskirts. Heels have a way of boosting your confidence and gait and you’ll need all the poise you can get this festive season.

Nails

There are so many green and red themes available as art work for the nails. If you’re feeling up to it and have the time and patience, you can comfortably draw beautiful patterns on your nails. If not, enlist the services of a nail expert. Another easier way is to go for the already mixed glittery green-and-red nail polish, which is usually readily available.

Go traditional in green

For many occasions as well, you can hardly go wrong with traditional dresses in green colour, especially with the variety of styles available. Mix and match with red accessories, red headgear and add the right heels and you’ll be sure to turn heads at the event.

Makeup

Using green and red as makeup may be scary for first-timers or even people who are not open to trying what may seem as bold colours. However, if expertly applied, with moderation in mind, green and red may just be your next favourite look. You can use glittery green eyeshadow on the eyes. Go for the smoky eye look if the event will allow it. Let your brows be well outlined as it will also contribute to the alluring effect of the eyeshadow. When applying the eye makeup, be careful not to drown the overall look by using too much. Highlight the cheeks with a bit of gold shimmer. Finish up the look with red or variants of red lipstick and you’re set for the outing.
