There was pandemonium in parts of Ado Ekiti on Friday morning when people scampered from the Oja Oba market upon the news that there was an armed robbery at an old generation bank at Ijigbo Roundabout.
Soon afterwards, the Bisi Market at New Garage was also thrown into panic as people ran in different directions following another alarm that there was robbery going on simultaneously at Ijigbo and at Bank Road.
Vehicles and motorcyclists hurriedly turned and thereby created a traffic jam at the Old Garage area.
The pandemonium got worse when rumours of an armed robbery at a new generation bank located at the Bank Road also got to the area.
Soldiers and armed police patrols were deployed and they patrolled the area.
Speaking on the robbery scare, the Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State police command, Mr Caleb Ikechukwu, described it as “a false alarm,” saying “there is nothing untoward going on in any part of Ado Ekiti.”

According to him, a man raised the false alarm and even shot into the air to make the fear more profound.
Ikechukwu said “he’s been apprehended. We have him now in our custody.”
The PPRO added that “he’s a paramilitary person who used his AK47 rifle. We want to find out why he did that and why he would raise such false alarm and cause panic and pandemonium in Ado Ekiti.
“Investigation is ongoing and the man is in our custody for questioning.”
