Gombe State Government is working towards the establishment of the State Traffic Management Agency (GOSTMA) with the aim of complementing the efforts of the Federal Roads Safety Commission (FRSC) at improving traffic situation across the state.
This was disclosed by the State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa, on Monday while inaugurating the new FRSC RS 3.2 Gombe State Sector Command new office complex located at Lafiyawo, along Gombe – Bauchi road.
While speaking at the occasion, the governor urged the Command to put more emphasis on road-user education alongside the capacity building, especially as his government embarks on the ‘NETWORK ELEVEN HUNDRED’ roads construction project which targets the construction of at least 100 KM of roads in each of the eleven Local Government areas of the state.
He also noted that the Corps needs a befitting office to achieve its mandate of eradicating road traffic accidents and creating safe motoring environment for the state saying, “I am aware that since its inception over 20 years now, FRSC had been operating in a rented office, hence the decision to support the building of this beautiful edifice to behold.”

The governor added that aside from the provision of land, office furniture and settlement of compensation, 3 ambulances were provided, as the focus is to save lives.
Both the Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi and Chairman FRSC Board, Malam Buhari Bello were thankful for the federal and Gombe State Governments for such great effort in improving road traffic as well as facilitating road safety administration and management.
The focus of FRSC for now they said, are infrastructure development, capacity building, the establishment of FRSC in all the Local Government Areas for enhanced performance and road safety clubs in primary and secondary schools.
They commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for executing laudable projects, including the extension of the Airport road dualization and other road expansion and construction projects as well as the Gombe Goes Green (3G) initiative.
Nicknaming the Governor as “MR GREEN’ in recognition and appreciation of the success of his 3G project, the Corps Marshal, Dr Oyeyemi specifically instructed the planting of trees in the Command’s premises to signal FRSC’s keying into the Gombe model.
The FRSC Board Chairman, Malam Buhari Bello, said that the invaluable support of Governor Yahaya and his exceptional assistance particularly towards the success of the commissioning ceremony, which he described as epoch-making as contained in a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the Governor.
