Road Construction: Work to commence on Owo/Ikare road ― Works Commissioner

ONDO State government on Thursday disclosed that work would soon commence on the Akure/Ado and Ikare/Isua/Kabba road to alleviate the suffering of road users on the road.

The State Commissioner for Works, Mr Taofeek Abdulsalam, who stated while inspecting some road projects in the state the construction of the road was part of the present administration desire in ensuring that every part of the state developed through adequate road construction that will boost economic activities in the state.

Abdulsalam who explained the efforts of the state government in fixing the Akure/Ado Ekiti road but said the state government had to stop the construction following directives from the federal government.

He, however, said the road would be awarded to contractors very soon while work will commence before December 2018 and said the roads, when completed, are expected to open up the state to economic development and investment.

He said “the Vice President and the Minister for works passed the road and saw that the road was in bad shape. I told them it may take two years before they begin work but the Vice President assured that he work will commence on the road before December.”

“All necessary things have been done and the minister assured me that the dualisation work will start this year and I believe him”

Speaking on the deplorable state of the Owo/Ikare road, the commissioner said the state government had been trying to provide palliative measures but said the rocky terrain of the road made it impossible saying “the road needs to be totally reconstructed”

He said “People will notice that once the road is fixed after some months it goes bad again” and said the deplorable state of the road has turned the road to haven and hide out for criminals and kidnappers

He assured that the contractors from FERMA will move to the site within the next few weeks.

The commissioner, however, laid the blame over the non-construction of the road at the footsteps of the national lawmakers representing the area for the bad shape of the road

“They have not been showing concerns towards the road. Even when they were told that the road has been included in the budget and should go and discuss with the committee, they failed to take action”,

“To us what the road needs is a total reconstruction and we hope our national assembly members can put it in the budget”,

The commissioner reassured the people of the state of the commitment of the government of Rotimi Akeredolu to deliver good road networks across the state.
