Rivers PDP commends Wike over investment in Science education

River State governor, Nyesom Wike

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has  given kudos to Governor Nyesom Wike for his interest and huge investment in science education in the State, describing the gesture as a step in the right direction.

In a statement signed by Jerry Needs, Special Adviser to the PDP Chairman, Felix Plush, on Media and Publicity, the party observed that no leader in the history of the state has shown such degree of remarkable interest in seeing the state take off technologically by re-awakening the interest of our school children in Science, Technology and Mathematics as Gov Wike.

The PDP also expressed joy that the Gov’s efforts in this regard were not lost on the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) and commended the body for reciprocating the efforts of the Governor by holding their 60th Anniversary Conference in Port Harcourt, the State capital and the investiture of Governor Wike as the patron of STAN.

“More remarkable”, Obuah stated, “is the sponsorship of 400 Science Teachers for this year’s STAN Conference geared towards encouraging science teachers in public schools across the state to upgrade their knowledge of current trends in science and technology so as to be able to teach the students well.

This, according to the State PDP boss, would help boost the selected Secondary Schools that have been provided with, and adequately equipped with science laboratories by the state government across the state as model and prototype science based schools in line with Gov Wike’s plan to give science and technology priority attention in our primary and post primary schools.

Obuah enjoined all those concerned particularly the science and mathematics teachers and the chosen prototype science-based schools to reciprocate the governor’s efforts by showing commitment in their duties for the benefit and future of children in the state.

Wishing, the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) a fruitful and successful conference/workshop, Obuah appealed that similar and regular conferences should be organised for science, technology and mathematics teachers across the country to be able to catch up with the speedy moving world of this age of science and technology.
