The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the updated voter register to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSEIC), alongside the list of registered political parties, ahead of the August 9, 2025, Local Government Council elections in the state.
In a letter dated March 13, 2025, and signed by INEC Administrative Secretary, Odor Napoleon Emezuiruke, the commission formally notified the RSIEC of the release. The letter, addressed to RSIEC Chairman, confirmed that a softcopy of the voter register had been provided in response to the commission’s request.

Following this, RSIEC issued a press statement, signed by Commissioner Tamunotonye Tobins (Media & Civic Education), confirming the receipt of the updated register from INEC Headquarters. The commission assured the public of its commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections.
However,as part of its preparations, INEC also released the list of registered political parties that will participate in the upcoming polls. The major parties include:
All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
Labour Party (LP), Action Peoples Party (APP) and
15 other registered parties.
