Rivers APC congresses at risk over rumoured injunction?

The nationwide congresses scheduled to hold today are at risk of not holding in Rivers State because of a rumoured court injunction against the exercise issued in favour of the Magnus Abe faction of the party.

News about the injunction filtered in through the social media this morning and if true, confirms an earlier allegation late Friday by Rotimi Amaechi’s faction that the Magnus Abe faction was making frantic moves to stop the congresses using the judiciary.

But Issac Abbott Ogbobula, Chairman Caretaker Committee of the party in Rivers State, could neither confirm nor deny the existence of such injunction.

In a telephone conversation with our correspondent early Saturday, he asked: “where’s it, where is the injunction? Do you have a copy of the injunction, journalist? Don’t speculate”.

The APC had Friday afternoon alleged that Senator Magnus Abe and members of his team were shopping for an injunction restraining the party from going ahead with its congress in Rivers State claiming it got its information is through credible sources.

“We have learnt that at about 4 pm Friday, 30th July, 2021, Senator Abe’s lawyers were filing papers to stop the APC from going along with its planned congresses as approved by the National Secretariat”, the party said through its Spokesman, Chief Ogbonna Nwuke.

It added; “We have further learnt that the Chief Judge of the state who was still within the court premises may any moment from now assign the matter to a judge who would be expected to issue a restraining order”.

When contacted, Parry Benson, the media aide to Senator Abe, simply said: ” I don’t know oooo”.
